Tale from the oven- Bikram yoga

So I attended my second hot yoga session last week, and even though I consider myself in relatively good shape, I will admit the urge to bolt to the exit came up multiple times while I was inside the studio. A little more about the hot yoga style I'm challenging myself to- it's called Bikram Yoga, and here in beautiful Vancouver, Canada, it's extremely popular. There are Bikram yoga studios everywhere in our city, and many more hot yoga studios of other forms.

A quick primer on Bikram- it's basically hot yoga practiced in a contained room heated to 40 °C (104 °F), with humidity in the 40% range. A standard Bikram class lasts 90 minutes (yes, not 1 hr), with students performing 26 postures twice. In that sense it's more rigid than other styles of yoga, but apparently each posture specializes in healing and improving a certain part of the body.

I'm determined to continue Bikram yoga for a few more weeks before deciding whether it's for me. Hopefully my body will begin acclimatizing to the punishing heat inside the studio soon.
